The Property is situated a short distance off the minor public road through Brough, on the island of Whalsay, which is served by a regular vehicle ferry service from the mainland. It was built circa 1940 with extensions being built at later stages.
Brough is a settlement in western Whalsay in the parish of Nesting in the Shetland Islands which lies to the southwest of Challister, northeast of New Park, and north of Tripwell.
Whalsay lies off the east coast of Shetland's Mainland and is reached by a regular 30 minute ferry link to Laxo, a little east of Voe. The name comes from the Old Norse Whale Island, though for generations of Scottish fishermen it has been better known as The Bonny Isle.
There are a large range of amenities which are mainly centred around Symbister which include a Junior High School, a couple of general stores including a post office, and a doctor's surgery. There are also excellent sporting facilities including a superb leisure centre with heated swimming pool, games hall, fitness suite, squash court & all weather sports field. Britain's most northerly 18 hole golf course is situated at Skaw at the north end of the island. There is also a marina and boating club in the harbour at Symbister.
