St Olaf is situated at Sellafirth, access being via a private hardcore surfaced track, branching off the minor road to Kirkabister, between the A968 road from Ulsta to Gutcher on the island of Yell, and the East shore of Basta Voe, some 15 miles North of the vehicle ferry terminal at Ulsta from which there is a regular vehicle ferry service to the Mainland.
There is vehicular and pedestrian access rights leading down the South East side of the croft to the house. There is also a gate at the bottom of the access track which provides access to the foreshore.
The main amenities on Yell are to be found at Mid Yell which is approx. 7 miles south of Sellafirth where there is a Junior High School, Leisure Centre/Swimming Pool, Medical Central, Care Centre and close by the property is a small business park. The village of Cullivoe is situated to the North East of the Island, near Bluemull Sound and is approx. 5 miles from the property where there is a local shop, Primary School, Galley Shed and the Village Hall.
Yell is connected to mainland Shetland by a regular subsidised ro-ro ferry service (crossing time approximately 20 minutes) which runs throughout the day from the terminal at Ulsta about 15 miles from the house, to Toft about 10 minutes from Brae & Sullom Voe and about 27 miles from Lerwick.
