Plan of Little Roe, Yell Sound
Little Roe, Yell, Shetland
The Shetland Islands comprise about 100 Islands and here is a real opportunity to acquire one of them extending to over 70 acres including the foreshores.
Little Roe is a name of Norse origin meaning “small red island”. In 1841 eleven people lived here, all in the same house but the Island is no longer inhabited. A light beacon has been built on the north end of the Island for the benefit of traffic in this busy shipping lane, serving the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal, although it is still tranquil enough to be visited by otters. Puffins and storm petrels nest here.
